- dreamrealyo dmlloyd you around?
- jbosmansi'm interested to hear about any companies investing in the JEE ecosystem vs something like (say) spring
- jbosmansfwiw JEE has great standards so "just" using any of them doesn't count, *only* using those JEE standards does :)
- dreamrealWhat do you mean by "investing," though? You're looking for people who purposefully limit themselves artifically to jakarta.* specs only?
- ParaWould paying Oracle for their products count?
- jbosmansi don't understand the confusion about something being JEE only, or something else that (only) supports it (eg spring)?
- jbosmansPara, not sure, i seem to remember changing a bunch of import not too long ago :)
- dreamrealjbosmans: well, the thing is, you can deploy spring apps into jee appservers and be fully compliant with the intent
- jbosmansyeah ofc dreamreal
- jbosmansover here, only one more project left to upgrade to spring framework 7 :)
- jbosmansdreamreal, didn't mean to underestimate the value of JEE, far from it, but besides "legacy clients", is there that much JEE demand anymore? (fwiw legacy clients is an extremely valid niche)
- jbosmansaka i understand the value of being able to change JEE vendors (a lot), but, i don't think that's something that often happens?
- dreamrealdepends on the development process: in-house, migration probably happens almost never
- dreamrealbut component vendors are likely to deploy server-neutral components
- jbosmanswhat do you mean by server-neutral? as in it could be any JEE compliant server?
- jbosmansfwiw, i'm not sure many EAR files could be deployed to a new app server day-to-day in any case, not to say it isn't a noble (and worthwhile) goal
- cheeser"nobody" uses JEE appservers anymore.
- jbosmansdon't think i said that :)
- jbosmansi remember writing java 1.4 when java 7 was out etc, so, yeah
