  2. nevetwaz now has karma of 1.
  3. javabotdreamreal's title: "Attached: 1 image
  4. javabotCounting the characters in ONE CHARACTER remains an open problem in computer science."
  5. whaleythat poor mastadon(?) instance is getting humbled right now by this, apparently
  6. dreamrealmastodon needs to be humbled. The protocol for the fediverse is awful.

  10. javabotwhaley's title: "Java's new AOT cache feature is in a rough state"
  11. whaley^ that one is for you bubba.
  12. whaleyFactoidUpdatedEvent(selector=^ that one)
  13. nevetok, whaley: updated ^ that one.
  14. whaleydreamreal: are you referring to activitypub itself, or mastodon and it's usage of AP?
  15. dreamrealactivitypub itself is a horror, mastodon adds its own layer
  16. dreamrealnevet can't use a lot of the AOT stuff like graalvm because of java2d
  17. dreamrealWhen 29 gets released maybe that'll be improved
  18. nimajehm, those training runs make it sound like it is a JIT cache, but for some reason gated into a special mode…
  19. dreamrealwell, you'd want that, and yes
  20. dreamrealthe only reason nevet doesn't use AOT now is java2d
  21. cheeserbecause of the native code in the bowels?
  22. dreamrealI guess? GraalVM doesn't just burp on java2d, it explodes
  23. Chronosdreamreal: Wait, what? What does nevet do with java2d?
  24. ChronosI was interested in GraalVM, but lost interest quickly after the "just follow this largely undocumented set of 289 steps to install/configure and then produce your svelte 95 MB binary"
  25. ChronosIt's like, how could they have gone so wrong? Meanwhile, competitors are like: go build lol done
  26. jbosmansChronos, what do you mean? In my experience graalvm works great but yes some data is needed and if it's not made available by others you need to provide it yourself
  27. nimajethe build instructions for graalvm itself?
  28. jbosmansif so why do that though?
  29. nimajehow else would you get graalvm on any system? someone has to build it and it is in barely any package repo yet
  30. jbosmansnimaje, https://www.graalvm.org/downloads/
  31. nevetDownload GraalVM
  32. jbosmansthe other things are basically packaged in maven/gradle plugins
  33. nimajedoesn't seem to have any *BSD version
  34. jbosmansnot sure if any BSD is supported
  35. nimajeand the linux version seems to be glibc only
  36. jbosmanswhich makes sense
  37. NeXeNChronos: reflection is difficult for it, you have to hint it
  38. dreamrealChronos: opengraph generation
