  20. dreamrealooo another bug
  21. Chronoshaha :)
  22. dreamrealNice!
  23. dreamrealI should have noticed that
  24. dreamreal"1 lives left" ew
  25. ChronosI wrote a similar-ish word guess game for an IRC bot written in C decades ago. It was multi-player, where everyone races to guess the right word. The bot fills in the letters automatically, every 5 seconds or so a new letter is revealed.
  26. dreamrealhah, that'd be doable too
  27. dreamrealstar traders would use the same functionality, actually
  28. dreamrealwhat was it called?
  29. dreamrealthat sounds a LOT shorter of a path than star trader :D

  169. dreamrealI'm off today - driving to Charlotte with my wife - but I'm going to try to fix the version stuff while we're getting ready.
  170. dreamrealAnd the timer architecture's been changed.
  171. dreamrealrss and github both use the new mechanism (it emits timing events every second into a channel, things that need to fire at specific times can watch for the timer events. This is going to be necessary for things like games, that aren't "run always," but obviously serves "run always" events, too.)

  183. Chronosdreamreal: It picks a random word from the dictionary, and then every 5 seconds, fills in one of the missing letters. First person to guess the word wins.

  189. dreamrealChronos: short answer: I don't know. I'm just trying to actually figure out what it all means instead of just saying "yes" or "no" based on vibes
  190. dreamrealSpring apparently makes most of it pretty transparent.
  191. dreamrealas in, you configure a client id, a secret, and a provider url,and spring does all the exchange and parsing crap.
  192. dreamrealIt's SUPPOSED to be effectively declarative, which fits the pattern.
  193. dreamrealand it's attractive enough; an oauth user has a verified email address, which is the MAIN thing we'd need to create the sevice binding 9which is what ties a user to a role in the system)
  194. * Chronos refuses to use any of those "sign in using X" websites.
  195. dreamrealAdd that as a comment. :D
  196. dreamrealI mean, the social side of the thing is important too
  197. ChronosI'm worried that I'm just being weird/different/difficult, heh.
  198. ChronosMaybe everyone else loves and uses "sign in using X" on websites.
  199. dreamreal1) It doesn't matter, you could too, loser; 2) "sign in using X" actually is safer for most things as long as you trust the "x" in question
  200. dreamrealits usually google or whatever, which means you get their full security suite
  201. dreamreals/you could/you count/
  202. ChronosI'm not sure I trust any X's, heh.
  203. dreamrealRun your own MTA, do you?
  204. dreamrealI shoulda had YOU set up nevet's
  205. dreamrealthat's a pain
  206. ChronosMy main email is Google, but in the back of my head, I'm always a little worried I'll lose access to my account, possibly with no recourse.
  207. ChronosBut I'm probably just being paranoid.
  208. dreamrealYou better hope so, I guess
  209. dreamrealI have a few different email providers: gmail's my main, on a free account, which is probably stupid
  210. dreamrealbut here's the thing: if oauth prevents you from using the site, that's important
  211. dreamreal"why" isn't relevant
  212. ChronosMine's a free account too, though I do have Google's AI Premium thingie-ma-jiggy, which maaaybe would give me some support/recourse if I lost access to my account?
  213. dreamrealI don't know, I pay for my wife's access to google apps but not my own
  214. ChronosI'm mostly worried about Google itself taking away access someday. Possibly accidentally. Possibly because they (likely falsely) decide I have something "bad" on my Google Drive.
  215. ChronosI tend to worry about Big Tech in general. Way too much consolidated power.
  216. dreamrealYeah, but consider the alternative
