  7. Chronosdreamreal: I liked the old web UI better
  8. ChronosI do appreciate that the new web UI reminds me of dark chocolate, and I love dark chocolate
  9. ChronosBut someone, it's visually less appealing
  10. ChronosI think it's just the colors my brain immediately dislikes
  11. ChronosAlthough I can't say I like the new font either
  12. ChronosHappy to see no more infinite spinners
  13. Chronoss/But someone/But somehow/
  14. bot[jottinger/bytecode.news] New PR #256: update style - https://github.com/jottinger/bytecode.news/pull/256
  15. dreamrealChronos: worth noting: reference.bytecode.news is still there :D
  16. dreamrealand then there's pull 256
  17. dreamrealooo this looks nice
  18. dreamrealAnd the new UI is deployed
  19. * Chronos vomits in his mouth a little bit
  20. dreamrealhaha
  21. dreamrealwhat aspect, gimme
  22. ChronosIt looks weirdly thin and stretched out vertically; and it's not centered!
  23. ChronosAnd I dislike the colors, which make me think "mid-2010s web page design", heh.
  24. dreamrealWell, it's an LLM... but what colors would you want?
  25. ChronosAnd I dislike the colors
  26. dreamreal(I am effectively colorblind, so I am a poor driver for such things)
  27. dreamrealI'm not ACTUALLY colorblind, it's a neurological thing I had for many many years, but my color perception was off
  28. ChronosRegarding colors, I'm not sure if there's only *one* set of colors I like. My reaction is more instinctual.
  29. Chronosdreamreal: Interesting.
  30. bot[jottinger/bytecode.news] New issue #257: ui-nextjs UI is not centered - https://github.com/jottinger/bytecode.news/issues/257
  31. dreamrealWell, I'm a VERY poor judge of colors apart from contrast
  32. dreamrealApparently I can see colors right now but I have decades of habitual ignorance to overcome
  33. Chronosdreamreal: If you've ever used Lobsters ( https://lobste.rs ), that may have my favorite colors of the websites I visit most. Specifically, the *dark* theme.
  34. nevetLobsters
  35. dreamreal(have you ever seen the XY color scale?)
  36. Chronos(no)
  37. dreamrealso grey/blue dominance?
  38. ChronosHere's a screenshot of how I see Lobsters:

  40. dreamrealhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CIE_1931_color_space
  41. nevetCIE 1931 color space - Wikipedia
  42. dreamrealSo if you look at that graph, the red was all ONE COLOR for me, no gradient, and there were dots in the rest of the scale that didn't fit
  43. ChronosOh my goodness. How fascinating.
  44. dreamrealit wasn't my eyes, it was something in my brain
  45. dreamrealMy kids got me a t-shirt that was red with red writing on it and didn't understand why I didn't think it was funny, I just thought it was a red shirt
  46. ChronosThat's super interesting. It's all different colors to me.
  47. dreamrealand they were like "look at what it says" ... it didn't have any lettering on it! It wasn't lithoed on or anything so there wasn't a contrast in textures, I literally couldn't see it
  48. dreamrealthe reds were too close together
  49. ChronosSomewhat related: I have tinnitus, which I understand is more than just damaged hearing, but also a neurological disorder. Broken brain!
  50. dreamrealyeah
  51. Chronosdreamreal: How fascinating. I wonder how many people have that same condition.
  52. dreamrealHopefully very few
  53. dreamreala few years ago, one summer I woke up and the world was *different*, everything looked very warm
  54. dreamrealmy brain somehow fixed itself and I can apparently see colors better now
  55. ChronosI can one-up you though: amblyopia. It suuuucks. It fucking fucking suuucks.
  56. dreamrealbut I'm so used to ignoring them that any color-related problem is met with "not me"
  57. dreamrealoh, that's... wandering eye, right?
  58. Chronosdreamreal: Huh. I wonder if you could somehow slowly but surely train your brain to see more colors.
  59. dreamrealChronos: I can apparently see them all now
  60. dreamrealthat graph looks gradient all over, like it's supposed to
  61. Chronosdreamreal: Yeah. In my case, though, I don't have one dominant eye. I use my left eye, until it gets "tired." Then I use my right eye, until it gets "tired." Repeat ad nauseum.
  62. dreamrealbut if you ask me to make JUDGEMENT CALLS about color, the answer is "no"
  63. dreamrealChronos: oof! I have a friend who developed a game for his son, with amblyopia, but I've never played it
  64. ChronosThe worst part is making eye contact with people. I can align my eyes properly if I'm spending 20% of my brain power keeping them aligned. But if I stop, one of them wanders off, and people *really* don't like that. It freaks them out.
  65. dreamrealhah, I bet
  66. dreamrealwierdo
  67. * dreamreal runs
  68. * Chronos chuckles
  69. Chronoss/JUDGEMENT/JUDGMENT/
  70. dreamrealAnyway, filed an issue on centering
  71. dreamrealI will never spell that properly, screw mirriam-webster, I KNOW GOODER
  72. Chronosdreamreal: I'm not sure if I'm good at picking colors. It's pretty much limited to "I know what I like." Lobsters' dark theme is my favorite.
  73. dreamrealNothing wrong with that
  74. Chronosdreamreal: I feel like judgement should be a valid alternative spelling. It might even be correct in British English, or something.
  75. ChronosAll that being said, I think most modern web browsers let you customize CSS per website, so I could (and probably should) do that on lots of websites.
  76. ChronosAlthough it probably depends on the website. Some of them have the most mind-bending complex CSS...
