It's Been a Bit!

Okay, so ByteCode.News hasn't published anything for a full month, and that's thanks to a few different factors.

One is simple: The editor's been busy! BCN is a labor of love, a passion project, and generates no revenue; other projects have been demanding of my time, and considering that they keep the lights on, they get priority.

This site was intended to be a community, but that requires motion, and there just hasn't been enough; I think the content's been valuable, but not valuable enough for others to say "I want to contribute there," so far... not in any sustainable fashion. That's mildly frustrating, but it's the way it goes.

I also had a nasty bout with the flu during the last month, and I'm still getting over that. So BCN has had a lot of competitors for its time, and - again, looking at it as a negative revenue stream - it's been losing.

Lastly, and probably most importantly, I hit what I call the "TheServerSide wall." That's not a term in common use, nor should it be, but it's what happens when everything you read starts to look the same, and thus nothing stands out that says "this warrants discussion."

That doesn't mean things haven't been worth discussing or promoting: it's just that a lot of it feels very... same-y. New releases have been incremental, even on significant projects, except for maybe new AI models... but even AI models are advances and aren't world-shaking. (The leaps are revisions, not actual changes; we're getting better, not original.)

There've been some interesting articles, but thanks to the flu and overload, I just haven't been able to find a lever to make them appropriate here. It's something that happens; the fix is to revise the standards some, to get more news-y, and save the deeper essays for when they're really inspirational, rather than swinging for the fences on every post.

More content coming soon!
